Mega Korean pop star Rain, who fashions his style after his favorites Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson, plays the lead role in new movie Ninja Assassin.

In Ninja Assassin, Rain’s character, Raizo, faces challenges eerily similar to the singer/actor’s real-life upbringing.
Rain, whose birth name is Jeong Ji-Hoon, grew up in poverty when his father left the family for better opportunities in Brazil. His mother died of diabetes complications when he was a teenager, and he often was beaten up on the streets while trying to get in with street dancers.
He was signed to be a part of Korean boy band, Fanclub, and said he and his bandmates were treated like caged animals as they were locked up and forced to rehearse for 10 hours without food.
Rain eventually broke away to become a solo star who sparks comparisons between himself and American pop stars Justin Timberlake and Michael Jackson, the King of Pop who died on the Asian star’s birthday. His last American stop at New York’s Madison Square Garden in 2006 sold out immediately and so did a subsequent concert to accommodate the interest.

Honestly, I had never heard of Rain until Transformers actress Megan Fox went gaga over him while promoting the second Transformers movie in Asia this past summer.
Rain’s streets-to-stardom life mirrors his Ninja Assassin character because Raizo is taken from the streets, treated like a commodity and forced to perform and breaks away to become the deadliest assassin in the world.
Ninja Assassin hits American theaters on Nov. 25. View the trailer:
