Jay-Z raps about his class, but he was classless by putting himself above the late Michael Jackson and the King of Pop’s fans when he said he wouldn’t take the stage if Chris Brown was allowed to perform at the BET Awards on Sunday.
Who cares if Jay-Z would have bowed out of the show? The world premiere video for the song he performed premiered immediately following the BET Awards. Meanwhile, we missed another historical Chris Brown imitation of Michael Jackson.
Chris Brown can do MJ like no other musical artist, and BET let down its viewers when they gave in and put Jay-Z’s ego and personal feud ahead of paying tribute to Michael Jackson, who died of cardiac arrest at the age of 50 Thursday.
If you haven’t seen it yet, check out Chris’ “Billie Jean” and Charlie Chaplin routine at the 2007 MTV VMA Awards.

Fans on Twitter waited all night to see Chris’ BET tribute to Michael, tweeting that the electric, soft-voiced singer/dancer would come out at any moment, and of course, they expressed lots of disappointment when the “Run It” singer never surfaced.
One of Chris’ backup dancers, Brandon Shaw, exposed Jay-Z on his Twitter page.

“So Jay-Z tells BET that if Chris performs that he will not perform,” tweeted Brandon. “Ummmm…….. Wait for it……..WHO CARES!!!!!”
Ditto!
Jay-Z is trying to shut out Chris because of the “Kiss Kiss” singer’s beating of his ex-girlfriend and Jigga’s protege, pop star Rihanna.

But we didn’t hear or see Jay come out publicly to condemn Chris when an LAPD picture of Rihanna’s battered face surfaced after the February alteraction.
Chris Brown has received his punishment: six months community service, one year of domestic violence counseling, five years probation. And Rihanna has forgiven her ex and actually wants the judge’s stay-away order to be lifted.
I’m a fan of Rihanna and Jay-Z, but they’re not bigger than Michael Jackson.
Operating behind closed doors, Jay sabotaged Chris, so classless, and he kept the young star from what would have been the one BET Awards performance worthy of being attached to the King of Pop.
Jay-Z put personal beef and self-promotion of his new song above MJ. The rapper gave a magnificent showing for his new “D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)” single while his fans held up demonic diamond signs for Hova, but Michael Jackson fans would have preferred to see Chris Breezy in what was supposed to be BET’s tribute to the deceased pop icon, not J-hova’s CD launch party.
Maybe we should show Jay-Z our displeasure by making sure his new album, The Blueprint 3 is D.O.A. when it’s released on 9-11, a day that should be remembered for the thousands of Americans who died in the Twin Towers attack.
Shame on BET for not standing up to Jay-Z for Michael Jackson.By Teneshia LaFaye
