Mega Korean pop star Rain, who fashions his style after his favorites Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson, plays the lead role in new movie Ninja Assassin.

In Ninja Assassin, Rain’s character, Raizo, faces challenges eerily similar to the singer/actor’s real-life upbringing.
Rain, whose birth name is Jeong Ji-Hoon, grew up in poverty when his father left the family for better opportunities in Brazil. His mother died of diabetes complications when he was a teenager, and he often was beaten up on the streets while trying to get in with street dancers.
He was signed to be a part of Korean boy band, Fanclub, and said he and his bandmates were treated like caged animals as they were locked up and forced to rehearse for 10 hours without food.
Rain eventually broke away to become a solo star who sparks comparisons between himself and American pop stars Justin Timberlake and Michael Jackson, the King of Pop who died on the Asian star’s birthday. His last American stop at New York’s Madison Square Garden in 2006 sold out immediately and so did a subsequent concert to accommodate the interest.
Honestly, I had never heard of Rain until Transformers actress Megan Fox went gaga over him while promoting the second Transformers movie in Asia this past summer.
Rain’s streets-to-stardom life mirrors his Ninja Assassin character because Raizo is taken from the streets, treated like a commodity and forced to perform and breaks away to become the deadliest assassin in the world.
Ninja Assassin hits American theaters on Nov. 25. View the trailer:

South Korean singer, dancer and actor Rain was shocked to find out on his June 25th birthday that his idol, African-American pop star Michael Jackson had died earlier in the day.

Rain, whose real name is Jung Ji-hoon, is considered by Asians to be the Korean Michael Jackson, but Transformers star Megan Fox calls Rain the Korean Justin Timberlake. Guess Fox, who has a crush on Rain, has never heard or seen any of Michael’s music, which Justin said has influenced him.

Rain cleared things up and said Michael Jackson has always been his inspiration. He has a clothing line called Six to Five for his birthday and now it will commemorate the death of his role model. He found out about Michael’s death through Twitter.
“I feel so sad and very sorry to hear this,” Rain said. “To me, Michael Jackson was my mentor. He is my idol. Because of him, I started dancing. He will be a legend forever. He is a mentor to all dancers. I’m sorry to hear this. I hope he is happy in heaven.”
Looking at his “Rainism” video, Rain obviously is inspired by Michael Jackson. He repeatedly sang about being “a bad boy” and the video is reminiscent of the King of Pop’s “Bad”, “Remember The Time”, and “Smooth Criminal” videos.
The 27-year-old Asian pop star is crossing over to America, where he just settled an $8 million lawsuit for skipping out on a concert in Hawaii, and he is being sued for another $30 million by an L.A. promoter for not performing in 2007 at the Staples Center. Time magazine listed him among the world’s 100 most influential people in 2006. In 2007, he was the voice of race car driver Taejo Togokahn in the live-action movie remake to the Japanese animated series, Speed Racer.
Rain has a new deal with the prestigious William Morris Agency, and the firm plans to market the Korean star’s music globally and build his Hollywood movie career. He is undertaking martial arts training for his starring role in upcoming movie, Ninja Assassin. The movie is directed by the Wachowski Brothers who made The Matrix trilogy.

If Rain becomes a Hollywood success, his star could be on the Walk of Fame near his idol, Michael Jackson.
“Michael Jackson is my mentor,” Rain said. “He made me dance. I am who I am today because of him. My heart hurts so much, but my idol will be alive in my heart, forever.”By Teneshia LaFaye

Megan Fox, the reigning sexiest woman in the world, has guys all across the globe panting after her.
But The Transformers movie star recently revealed that her teen hormones were so out of control when she ran into Justin Timberlake at Bally’s Total Fitness in L.A., six years ago, that she had to run out of the gym.
Now Fox, 22, is hot for South Korean pop singer/dancer/actor Rain, who she calls the Korean Justin Timberlake.

But after watching his “Rainism” video, Rain sounds like Al B. Sure, the real dad of Diddy’s stepson Quincy, and his style looks more like Michael Jackson in The Gloved One’s “Smooth Criminal”, “Bad” and “Remember the Time” videos. I’m willing to bet Rain was copying MJ’s style rather than JT’s.
See for yourself:
After learning of Michael Jackson’s death, Rain confirmed: “He is my master and the prime mover to make me dance. Even though he is dead, he is an eternal performer.”

Rain, 26, whose real name is Jeong Ji-hoon, has won several MTV Asia Awards, and he was voted one of People magazine’s First Time Beauties in 2007. He appeared as race car driver Taejo Togokahn in the 2008 live action adaption of the Japanese cartoon Speed Racer.
And like Justin who is also a singer, actor and dancer, Rain has his own clothing line called “Six to Five”, which signifies his birthday, June 25, which ironically is the date Michael Jackson died.
“There is this Korean Justin Timberlake named Rain and I’m really on his situation now,” Fox said. “I’m trying to fix this up. I’m working hard.”
If Megan doesn’t get her man, there are plenty of guys who are willing to stand in for Rain.By Teneshia LaFaye
