Lady Gaga was a songwriter for other artists at Interscope Records and was about to be dropped as an artist — her fourth release from a label — when Akon recognized her unique fashion and her incredible vocal abilities and signed her as an artist on his new record label, Kon Live Distribution.
Akon, who was raised in former slave-trading African country Senegal, said Lady Gaga, who was born Stefani Germanotta in Brooklyn to her Italian-American parents, has made him so rich that he can retire from singing.
Yet, Akon soon will release an album of his own. He is the only artist to ever have the No. 1 and No. 2 song on Billboard’s 100 chart twice.
See what he has to say about Lady Gaga, who boasts five No. 1 hit songs in the last 12 months.
Lady Gaga, who beat out Britney Spears for two Grammy Awards last month, is the hottest name in music today. My Blackberry ringtone has featured a Lady Gaga song since last June.
Since her debut a year and a half ago, Lady Gaga has sold eight million copies of her debut album, The Fame, and the re-release, Fame Monster and 35 million singles worldwide.
Akon appeared in the music video for Lady Gaga’s first release, “Just Dance”. The song was nominated for a Grammy last year, which kept her from consideration for Best New Artist this year.
Take a look at one of Lady Gaga’s first interviews with Akon by her side.

While Lady Gaga walked the Grammys’ red carpet in a head-turning Giorgio Armani original on Sunday, Britney Spears showed up in a fish-net outfit that looked like it was pulled out of her closet.

Before opening for the 52nd Annual Grammys, Lady Gaga beat out Britney in the Grammys’ pre-telecast to win Best Dance Recording with “Poker Face” and Best Electronic/Dance Album, for her debut album The Fame. Gaga’s two Grammys are the first of her less than two-year career. She received five nominations this year and one nomination last year.
The newly crowned Grammy Award winner opened the show singing and dancing to “Poker Face”, the song that skyrocketed her career, and she sat down for a piano duet with legendary singer Elton John. They sang his classic hit, “Your Song”, and “Speechless”, which the classical piano-trained Gaga wrote and composed.

Before singing “Speechless”, Gaga yelled, “Take my picture, Hollywood. I want to be a star”.
Gaga doesn’t have to wish to be a star. She already is and is outshining one of the biggest female stars in the last decade.

The Recording Academy that chooses the nominees for the Grammy Awards have screwed up big time.
Lady Gaga isn’t eligible for the Grammys’ Best New Artist, an award she deserves to win for being an outstanding songwriter, singer, composer and performer and producing 5 No. 1 hits on her debut album and the re-released version.
Gaga is ineligible because her first single “Just Dance”, a No. 1 hit, received a Grammy nomination (Best Dance Recording) last year. However, the bulk of her The Fame debut album, including three more No. 1 hits, wasn’t released until months after last year’s Grammys. She produced her fifth No. 1 hit with “Bad Romance”, which was released at the end of 2009 with seven more new songs on The Fame Monster, a re-release of her debut album.
The artists who are up for the award didn’t have nearly the success of Lady Gaga. Nominees for Best New Artist are The Zac Brown Band, Keri Hilson, MGMT, Silversun Pickups and The Ting Tings.
Grammy president Neil Portnow recognizes the injustice for Lady Gaga and said the Recording Academy may change the rule to allow the year’s hottest new artist to compete for Best New Artist next year.
Nevertheless, Lady Gaga received five Grammy nominations, including Album, Record and Song of the Year which Beyonce and Taylor Swift were also nominated for.By Teneshia LaFaye

Lady Gaga released her first album 15 months ago, but her talent is so extraordinary that she has re-released her debut album with eight new amazing songs, most notably “Bad Romance”, “Speechless” and “Telephone” to satisfy the cravings of her growing legion of “little monsters”, the rising star’s nickname for her fans, like me.
Lady Gaga, 23, is one of those rare entertainers that comes around only a few times in our lifetime that has a talent that stands out from the pack. She’s an extremely gifted singer, pianist, songwriter, composer, dancer and costume designer.
Watch out Madonna.
Lady Gaga will be up for five Grammy Awards during the 52nd annual show on Jan. 31, and her debut album, The Fame, and re-released album, The Fame Monster, have combined for 8 million sales.
Celebrities paid $25,000 to see Lady Gaga’s private New Year’s Eve performance in Miami. And now Oprah Winfrey is singing Lady Gaga’s praises.
Before sitting down for a one-on-one with the singer, Oprah sang along with other Lady Gaga’s “little monsters” in the audience as the singer performed three of her new songs, “Monster”, “Bad Romance” and “Speechless” for the Friday edition of The Oprah Show.
During the Oprah interview, Lady Gaga, who is famous for her outlandish attire and on-stage antics, said she wanted to paint herself blue for one of her performances before the movie Avatar came out. She revealed that she prefers to be called Gaga because “it feels so weird to be called a lady”. But why does she say, “don’t call me Gaga” to begin her new song, “Monster”?
Add that to the mystery of Lady Gaga.
The “Poker Face” singer also revealed to Oprah that the one thing people don’t know about her is that she loves to experiment with cooking gourmet dishes.
She used her Oprah Show platform to turn attention to the victims of the devastating earthquake in Haiti. The singer will donate all of her earnings from her Jan. 24 concert in New York and all purchases on her web site, www.ladygaga.com, that day toward relief efforts in Haiti, where an estimated 100,000 are dead or missing. The New York native said she relates to the plight of Haitians because she suffered in New York on 9-11 and during the aftermath, and said her 9-11 experience pales in comparison to what is happening in Haiti.
Although she gets a lot of bad press for her antics, Gaga said she makes her music to exploit the sensational media and to encourage her fans to “free themselves” to “be yourself”, to “be proud of who they are” and to “celebrate all the things that they don’t like about themselves.”
And she urged her “little monsters” to “always be good to your parents” and keep “good solid relationships” with them. I talk to my mother multiples times every day, and I can’t wait to show the interview to my teenage son, who is also one of Lady Gaga’s “little monsters”.

Most people I talk to look at me like I’m crazy when I say I’m a huge Lady Gaga fan because they say she’s weird or gothic.
I guess they base their opinions on her insanely spectacular stage antics. At the MTV Video Music Awards in September, she pretended to stab herself at her piano and finished the routine with “blood” spilling from her midsection before being “hung” from a chandelier.

Then, there’s the glass wall she broke and the glass bottles she shattered while playing a flaming piano and singing her latest hit song, “Speechless”, during her performance at the American Music Awards in November.
So maybe New Year’s organizers didn’t feel Lady Gaga was appropriate for ABC and NBC’s family-oriented New Year’s Eve broadcasts.
Well, they made a mistake, and Miami residents and visitors, including a bunch of young celebrities, were able to have Lady Gaga to themselves on New Year’s Eve as she performed four songs in front of the pool at Fontainebleu Hotel to help fans ring in New Year’s. She sold $1 million in tickets with tables selling for as much as $25,000
Lady Gaga is a musical genius with powerful vocal range, catchy dance steps and extraordinary skills as a pianist, songwriter and composer.
She was born Stephani Germanotta. Before bleaching her hair blonde, her long brunette locks, powerful vocals and magnificent piano skills drew comparisons to Nora Jones and Amy Winehouse.
Stephani dropped out of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. Before she dropped out, she drew a lot of attention with her performance at a 2005 NYU talent show.
Stephani changed her name to Lady Gaga after one of her early producer’s nicknamed her Gaga because her vocal style was similar to late Queen rock band member Freddie Mercury, who sang “Radio Ga Ga”. Of course, gaga also means crazy.
Now that the lady has gone gaga, she has created her own name by combining the talents of Nora, Amy, Madonna, Cindy Lauper, Christina Aguilera and Britney in addition to being inspired by Queen, David Bowie and Michael Jackson.
Lady Gaga is sure to rake in Grammy Awards on Jan 31. She has five Grammy nominations, including album of the year, song of the year and record of the year.
Hopefully, then the masses can see Lady Gaga isn’t weird. She knows exactly what she’s doing, and she’s a musical genius.By Teneshia LaFaye

I guess Beyonce wasn’t creeped out my Lady Gaga’s outlandish wardrobe changes while sitting next to her at MTV’s Video Music Awards in September.
The “Diva” star and “Poker Face” singer have hooked up for two songs on their re-released albums.
Lady Gaga adds some pop to Beyonce’s “Video Phone” remix, which is featured on her I Am… Sasha Fierce extended album, and B lends her voice on Lady Gaga’s “Telephone”, a new song for her recently released album The Fame Monster, a re-release of her debut album The Fame.

Lady Gaga is very weird, but I love her music. Her “Poker Face” video lifted me out of a funk during the spring, and her “Paparazzi” song has been my cell ring tone for the last two months. I wake up to Beyonce’s “Diva”.
Read a review and listen to Beyonce’s and Lady Gaga’s “Video Phone” and “Telephone” and check out Lady Gaga and Beyonce in “Video Phone”.

Saturday Night Live was full of sexual innuendos and sex crimes, and highly sexual singers Madonna and Lady Gaga were right in the middle of it when they made guest appearances on the show this past Saturday.
Madonna and Lady Gaga dressed alike in black leather halter tops and bottoms, fishnet pantyhose and knee-high black leather boots to perform during a skit for a music talk show. The ladies fought for position on the stage, and the fight spilled over to the interview couch, where the host played by SNL’s Kenan Thompson sat between them to stop the catfight.
Kenan instructed the pop stars to kiss and make up. As Madonna and Lady Gaga leaned in front of him to kiss, he stuck his puckered lips between them and the three of them “made out” on the couch to end the skit.
After a commercial break, Lady Gaga performed her No. 1 hit song “Paparazzi”, which happens to be my cell phone ring tone and my favorite song ever since buying her CD in the spring. At one point, Lady Gaga’s male dancer came behind her and they girated in harmony while strumming a keyboard guitar together.
SNL also produced some sexual humor at the expense of famous director Roman Polanski, who admitted to raping a 13-year-old girl in 1977, and John Phillips, the deceased lead singer of the 1960s Mamas and Papas band whose daughter Mackenzie recently accused of incest.
In a celebrity Family Feud skit, the Osmonds were pitted against the Phillips. The survey question was to “name things you do with your dad”. The SNL actor portraying John Phillips looked shocked and hot under the collar. But Mackenzie’s answer was “sports”, which drew a response from her “brother”, who said the other siblings are never invited to play sports with the father and daughter and it always involves trips to hotels. In response to the scandal, the Family Feud host abruptly ended the show.
During SNL’s popular weekend update, an actor portraying California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger commented on the Polanski scandal. “The Governator” said that he is a fan of the famous director of The Pianist, Chinatown and Rosemary’s Baby, but while watching those movies, he never imagined it would be OK for the director to have sex with a 13-year-old girl.
And the “governor” responded to the excuse that the 1970s had a culture in which it was normal for a 44-year-old to have sex with a 13-year-old. “Schwarzenegger” said that he also was with a lot of women in the 70s, but they were not 13-year-old girls and he didn’t use the champagne and the Quaaludes to get women in bed as Polanski has admitted to doing to his victim. The “governor” held up his biceps and said “This was my champagne. This was my Quaaludes.”
SNL’s producers are to be applauded for successfully toeing the line between the real and the make-believe in two high profile sex scandals.
By the way, the real Arnold Schwarzenegger, a former Mr. Universe turned Hollywood actor and now governor, said everything that was portrayed on the Saturday Night Live skit, except the part about the champagne and Quaaludes. He also said that he will not pardon Polanski when the director is extradited from Switzerland back to California to face the penalty for skipping sentencing for pleading guilty to raping a 13-year-old and fleeing the U.S. more than 30 years ago.By Teneshia LaFaye
