Jay-Z and Beyonce dance around talking publicly about their eight-year relationship, but they finally acknowledged their nearly two-year marriage on music’s biggest stage, the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards, on Sunday.
After winning a Grammy for Best Pop Vocalist for “Halo”, Beyonce said she wanted to thank her “family for all of their support, including my husband. I love you.” Jay-Z raised his hands in giddy astonishment from his front row seat next to their nephew, the son of Beyonce’s younger sister Solange. B must have been so smitten by Jay because she didn’t realize that it was her sixth Grammy of the night, a record for a female artist.
In 2004, Beyonce won five Grammys off her debut album to tie the previous record shared by Alicia Keys, Norah Jones and Lauryn Hill, Amy Winehouse and Alison Kraus.
Beyonce’s six Grammys on Sunday make her the most decorated woman in one night in the Grammys’ 52-year history. But she lost out to Taylor Swift for Album of the Year to end the night. Taylor won for her Fearless album and the 20-year-old was so surprised that she said she will tell her future grandchildren, when she’s 80, about her victory.
Beyonce won the first major Grammy of the night, Song of the Year, for co-writing “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It), which inspired men, women, children and other singers, such as Justin Timberlake and Joe Jonas, to make their own videos of her song. She wasn’t able to accept the Song of the Year award because she was backstage preparing for her performance. She marched through the audience with an all-male army and sang “If I Were a Boy”. In the middle of her song, she transitioned to Canadian singer Alanis Morissette’s 1995 No. 1 hit song, “You Ought to Know”, and then fell back to “If I Were a Boy” to end her performance.
Here’s Alanis Morisette’s performance of “You Ought to Know” at the 38th Annual Grammys.
Incidentally, Alanis Morisette became the youngest to win the Grammys’ Album of the Year until Taylor Swift’s victory Sunday night. At the time 21 years old, Alanis won for her debut album, Jagged Little Pill, which included “You Ought to Know”.
On Sunday night, Beyonce also won a Grammy for Best R&B Contemporary Album for I Am … Sasha Fierce.
Earlier in the night, Jay-Z brought his and Beyonce’s little nephew, Julez, to the stage with him and Rihanna to accept a Grammy for Best Rap/Song collaboration for “Run This Town”.By Teneshia LaFaye

Jay-Z and Beyonce were among the musical artists to perform Friday for the “Hope for Haiti Now” telethon that raised $57 million for food, shelter, medical assistance and rebuilding efforts in Haiti, where two massive earthquakes left 100,000 dead and millions homeless and hungry.
Yet, Jay and B, Forbes magazine’s highest earning celebrity couple for the second consecutive year with a combined $122 million between June 2008 and June 2009, have not been mentioned among the celebrities that have given large contributions to Haiti.
However, celeb couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie and fellow actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Sandra Bulllock each gave $1 million. Madonna, who also performed on Hope for Haiti Now, chipped in $250,000.
Brazilian model Giselle Bundchen, the highest paid supermodel last year and the new wife of NFL quarterback Tom Brady, gave a whopping $1.5 million to Haiti.
But Jay-Z and Beyonce, who secretly married in 2008 after dating on the down low for six years, have only lent their talents to raise money for Haiti. On the Haiti relief telethon Friday, Jay-Z joined Rihanna and U2’s Bono for the song “Stranded” and Beyonce sang her hit song, “Halo”, and substituted “Haiti” for “Baby” in her verses, “Baby, I can see your halo. You know you’re my saving grace”.
With Coldplay’s Chris Martin playing the piano, Beyonce sang,”You’re everything we need and more. It’s written all of your face. Haiti we can see your halo. I pray you wont fade away.”
The day after the Haiti telethon, Jay and B were photographed dining in a restaurant in Paris, and they were spotted leaving the Nice, France airport on Sunday.
While I respect they took the time to help raise money for Haiti, it would be nice to know if the power couple made any significant contributions to the hungry, homeless victims in Haiti.
Maybe, Jay-Z and Beyonce and other celebrities will step forward and give now that Haiti contributions will be tax write-offs for 2009.
To give $10 to Haiti through the American Red Cross, text HAITI to 90999 or give $5 to Haitian American artist Wyclef Jean’s non-profit Yele Haiti by texting YELE to 501501. My teen son and I each contributed to both charities.By Teneshia LaFaye

Rihanna appears to be fully recovered from her humiliation nearly a year ago after the public found out about her physical abuse at the hands of her then-boyfriend and now ex Chris Brown.
After numerous interviews at the end of the year to help young girls learn from her experience, Rihanna used her voice to help millions of NBC viewers ring in New Year’s.

Then she spent the first couple weeks of 2010 with her new boyfriend, L.A. Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp, relaxing in Mexico and attending NBA games.
Now, the Barbados-born singer has turned her attention to the Haiti crisis, where two massive earthquakes hit earlier this month to kill an estimated 100,000 and leave millions hungry and homeless.
Appearing on The Oprah Show on Wednesday, Rihanna sang Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song” to draw attention to the suffering in Haiti, which is not far from her Caribbean homeland. Rihanna’s version of the song can be purchased on Itunes, and the proceeds will go to Haiti relief.
Rihanna said Marley’s song helped her get through difficult problems in her life. Ironically, Oprah sent a message to Rihanna that “he will hit you again” when she went back to Chris Brown last February after a photo of her battered face was leaked to the media. But Oprah didn’t mention the incident when Rihanna appeared on the show Wednesday.
Then on Friday, Rihanna teamed with Jay-Z and U2’s Bono to sing “Stranded” during the networks’ “Hope for Haiti Now” telethon to raise money for Haiti relief efforts.
So Rihanna recovered from her personal pity party just in time to use her talents to lift the spirits of others.By Teneshia LaFaye

MTV bans Kanye West from Haiti fundraiser, Jay-Z, Rihanna and Coldplay to headline benefit concert

January 21st, 2010Entertainment, Haiti, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Rihanna
When Kanye West is in a music sound room, there’s no doubt he’s going to produce a No. 1 hit song for himself or another artist.
But when he steps to the microphone at a live event, there’s no telling what he’s going to say, and judging from Kanye’s history, it’s not good. Remember his 2005 Grammys acceptance speech. NBC’s Hurricane Katrina relief telethon in which he said “George Bush doesn’t care about black people.” The Taylor Swift/MTV Video Music Awards fiasco. And a few other public outbursts.
So Kanye West is being banned from joining other celebrities at 8 p.m. Eastern Friday during MTV’s “Hope For Haiti” fundraising concert to raise money for the victims in Haiti, where two massive earthquakes in less than two weeks have left millions homeless, hungry or dead.
Haitian American hip hop artisit Wyclef Jean and Oscar-winning actor George Clooney are hosting the event. Rihanna, U2’s Bono, Jay-Z, Coldplay, Bruce Springsteen are some of the dozens of big names who will perform.
Rihanna and Jay-Z will perform a new song called “Stranded”. Last year, Kanye West was making the rounds with Rihanna and Jay-Z to perform their hit song, “Run This Town”. But after Kanye’s VMA outburst, he gave a final performance with Jay-Z and Rihanna on The Jay Leno Show and announced that he would take time off to self reflect because he never properly grieved his mother’s sudden death from a botched cosmetic surgery in 2007.
So far, Kanye has kept his word and laid low.
And I think he would be a helper rather than a hindrance if he were allowed to participate in the Haiti fundraiser based on how he has kept his mouth shut for going on three months and spent the Christmas holidays serving food to L.A.’s homeless with his model girlfriend Amber Rose by his side.By Teneshia LaFaye

December 27th, 2009Chris Brown, Entertainment, Jay-Z, Rihanna
Rihanna’s good girl image has definitely gone bad.
She hoped to set an example for young women in violent relationships by leaving Chris Brown and telling her account of her abuse at the hands of the R&B singer earlier this year.
But domestic violence is the only area Rihanna, whose new album is appropriately titled Rated R, expects to be a role model.

In a recent interview with New York City radio host Angie Martinez, Rihanna opened up about her fascination with grabbing other women’s boobs, flirting and dancing with girls at clubs, getting wasted and of course Chris Brown and the old rumors of getting between Jay-Z and Beyonce.

Rihanna also addressed speculation that she is part of the Illuminati, an underground group of the world elite who worship the devil and attempt to control the world.
Rihanna just sounds like many other 21-year-old women, only her actions are under the microscope because she is a celebrity and is considered a role model to young girls, whether she likes it or not.

December 25th, 2009Beyonce, Entertainment, Jay-Z, Life
Before appearing on Oprah this year, rapper and businessman Jay-Z had been hush-hush about his seven-year relationship with fellow hip hop superstar Beyonce Knowles. Even Jay and B’s nuptials were kept secret from their friends last year.
But now the former drug dealer has become so crazy in love with Beyonce that he is contemplating altering his name from Shawn Corey Carter to Shawn Knowles-Carter to preserve Beyonce’s family name.
Jigga what?

Beyonce’s parents, Mathew and Tina Knowles, had Beyonce and her younger sister Solange, so they don’t have a boy to carry on their name, and Tina recently filed for divorce from her husband of 29 years.
Beyonce already preserves her mother’s maiden name, Beyince, and her and her mother have created the House of Dereon clothing line in honor of her grandmother, Agnes Dereon, who designed clothes for church alter boy, family and friends.

Now Jay-Z is becoming a family man by doing his part to preserve his wife’s heritage. He deserves credit because some guys have so much ego that they expect their wives to drop their maiden name and they balk at their bride hyphenating her maiden name with theirs.
But as hard as Jay-Z tries to portray, he has a soft spot for his wife and has proven that a real man does his best to make his wife happy.
If Jay follows through with his name change, Beyonce’s name would change from Beyonce Giselle Knowles to Beyonce Knowles-Carter.
And by combining their names, there may be some truth to speculation that Jay and B are planning to start a family.By Teneshia LaFaye

I just love the new hit song by New York natives Jay-Z and Alicia Keys. “Empire State of Mind” describes how the streets of NYC are so inspirational, and it reminds us that the “concrete jungle is where dreams are made of”.
I certainly was so inspired on my first trip to New York three years ago that I didn’t want to leave to return to Florida.
And when I bought Jay-Z’s new CD, I kept “Empire State of Mind” on auto-repeat during my entire three-hour drive down a Florida interstate for a training.
The song’s music and lyrics just give me a rush that makes me feel invincible, and Jay-Z and Alicia delivered the same adrenaline in Yankee Stadium when they performed during the pre-game of Game 2 of the World Series. Then, the Yanks turned around and brought home NY’s first MLB championship in nine years and their league-best 27th World Series title.
And with all of the excitement from Yankees fans all over the country, I would have to disagree with Jay-Z’s “Empire State of Mind” verse that says, “I made the Yankee hat more famous than a Yankee can”.

I seriously doubt rabid Yankee fans imagine Jay-Z, a multimillionaire hip hop mogul and part-owner of the NBA’s New Jersey Nets, instead of star Yankee players Alex Rodriguez, Andy Pettitte or Derek Jeter when thinking about their beloved team. However, Jeter acknowledged that the song is now the anthem for New Yorkers.
It’s a very inspirational song. Kudos to Jay-Z and congrats to the Yankees for winning the World Series.
Watch Jay-Z’s and Alicia Keys’ World Series performance.
If you’re never been to New York or you want to reminisce, watch the amazing “Empire State of Mind” video. It should definitely win an MTV Moonman.

Abercrombie & Fitch is suing Beyonce for her new “Sasha Fierce” perfume because the clothing and apparel company believes the name infringes on its “Fierce” fragrance.
The company has no case. Sasha Fierce is Beyonce’s stage alter ego, and the 28-year-old singer and actress has every right to make money off the moniker that she’s been using since she busted onto the music scene as a teenager.
Abercrombie’s lawsuit is as bogus as it would be if Beyonce’s husband Jay-Z, co-founder of the Rocawear clothing line, sued actor and former wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson for producing a Rock clothing line. -
September 16th, 2009Beyonce, Entertainment, Jay-Z, Life
Jay-Z revealed in the latest issue of Oprah’s O magazine that friends of him and his wife Beyonce felt betrayed when they learned of their private wedding.
I know it’s best to keep friends and family out of your marriage, but I can understand how the friends could feel betrayed.
Imagine if your close friends got married and kept it a secret and you found out by reading it in the paper or watching a TV report.
I can totally relate because my co-worker, who I helped get a job and who I trained and outperformed, was promoted to be my manager, and he never told me even though I rode with him to a company dinner, where his promotion was announced in front of everybody. Plus, our head manager had a chance to tell me a day earlier when we talked about the new manager, but she didn’t and after announcing her decision at dinner, she came over to tell me that I deserve credit for bringing him to the company.
Talk about a slap in the face. But I’ll get over it. I know my friend will look out for my best interests, and I certainly don’t want the responsibility of being a manager, and like my friend said, I’ll still make more money than him because of my sales commissions for being the No. 1 agent in the company.
Still it would have been nice to have a heads up that my friend was going to be my boss before others were told.
So I can understand why friends of Jay-Z and Beyonce feel jilted by not being in the loop about their marriage. At least Mr. and Mrs. Sean Carter could have sworn their friends to secrecy before their nuptials were announced to the world.By Teneshia LaFaye

Hip hop mogul Jay-Z and his wife, international pop and movie star Beyonce, were taking a stroll down a quaint alley around 1 a.m. Wednesday in Dubrovnik, Croatia, to take a boat across the sea. But the romantic evening was interrupted when three photographers tailed the super couple to take video and still photos.
So I can’t blame their bodyguard “Julius” for assaulting one of the photographers and throwing another’s tripod into the sea. The Croatian police department agreed and dismissed their charges against Julius for assault and destruction of property.
I think Julius was just doing his job. The photographers were overstepping the boundaries and violating the privacy of Jay-Z and Beyonce, who was in Croatia taking a vacation from her “I am…. Sasha Fierce” tour.

Here is footage from Beyonce’s and Jay-Z’s stroll that led to their bodyguard getting into an alteraction with the photographers.
