Darian Demetri is a recent high school graduate and a celebrity gossip blogger. He once owned a teen social network and recently has written several young adult fiction novels. The first will be published in fall 2012.

Teneshia LaFaye is a licensed insurance professional in Jacksonville, Fla, and a second-generation graduate of the University of Florida. Her father is one of the leading black orthopedic surgeons in the country, and her mom is a pioneer in the hair care industry and a Jacksonville church prayer leader. Her grandfather was one of the first black deputy sheriffs in Jacksonville.

Teneshia has a spiritual gift for writing and focuses on teaching high school students and young adults about creating a budget, saving for a rainy day, establishing good credit and more financial tips.

Teneshia was an award-winning sports writer for seven years for two daily Florida newspapers, The Tallahassee Democrat and her hometown paper The Florida Times-Union. She interviewed professional, collegiate, high school and community athletes, including Cal Ripken Jr., Roger Staubach, Michael Jordan, Artis Gilmore and Tim Tebow. Deceased legendary Olympic gold medalist and NFL receiver Bob Hayes considered Teneshia to be his friend.

Teneshia left The Times-Union shortly after giving birth to her second son in 2004 to teach high school English at her struggling alma mater, Raines High School. She soon moved on to promote newly-released movies for Warner Bros, Disney, Fox and others for nearly three years while helping her oldest son, Darian Demetri, run a teen newspaper and news site that enabled her to interview young celebrities, such as Amanda Bynes. Teneshia and Darian briefly co-owned a social network for teenagers with 7,000 users in four months in between Myspace’s decline and the rise of Facebook. Now, Darian runs a fashion rating site, www.faddest.com, that rates a person’s swag and tags popular clothing brands.

Teneshia has been a licensed insurance agent for seven years and was the No. 1 producer in her industry in 2009 and 2011. As a Medicare benefit consultant, she educates senior citizens and disabled Americans about Medicare Parts A, B, C and D, and she assists them with applying for Medicaid and low-income subsidy to help pay for their Part B premium and prescription drug co-pays. She also does public speaking at high schools and colleges to educate young people on how to attend college for free, how to create a budget, how to establish credit and more.

After struggling financially for years, Teneshia had a financial breakthrough to clean up her credit to build her first house, a two-story dwelling on a spacious lot in Florida.

In the last four years, Teneshia has blessed her family with several vacations, including a cruise through Alaska and Canada, a cruise in the Bahamas, and trips to President Barack Obama’s inauguration, the NBA Eastern Conference Finals, Las Vegas, New York, Disney World, Universal Studios and Los Angeles/Beverly Hills for Michael Jackson’s memorial.

In 2009, Teneshia completed a book, What My Mom Taught Me About Money, with her oldest son Darian that teaches high school students, college students and young adults to form good financial habits, such as budgeting, saving, investing and more. She also created a limited edition I Was There, King of Pop Commemorative Journal to remember the positive achievements and influence of deceased pop icon Michael Jackson. A new expanded version of What My Mom Taught Me About Money will be released in the summer of 2012. Teneshia has a new book, Mom’s Money Lessons, coming out in July.

Teneshia hopes her MyTenSense blog is informative and entertaining for site visitors, and she looks forward to reading comments to her posts as well as reader emails. She may be emailed at teneshia@mytensense.com
