Chris Brown shuts down New York, but needs to release Michael Jackson
I’m in awe whenever I watch Chris Brown perform. Apparently, New Yorkers feel the same.
He set a Today Show record when the NYPD shut down streets between Times Square and Radio City Music Hall on Friday to accommodate an estimated 18,000 fans who crammed into Rockefeller Plaza to watch the 22-year-old phenom sing and dance to his songs “Yeah 3x”, “Forever”, “Transform Ya” and “She Ain’t You” during NBC’s annual Summer Concert Series.
Chris wowed the crowd and fans roared when he did the Dougie to end his four-song performance.
But I have a major problem with Chris highjacking Michael Jackson’s style, music and dance moves. It was cute when he did an on-point rendition of the King of Pop’s famous Billie Jean dance at the end of his performance at 2007 MTV Video Music Awards.
And I got goosebumps when he repeated the tribute at the 2010 BET Awards for the one-year anniversary of MJ’s death.
But enough already. C-Breezy needs to stop copying Michael Jackson. The young star has amazing talent, but he needs to be more original.
During his Today Show performance, he wore shiny gloves, a trademark of the King of Pop, and he performed his new song “She Ain’t You” which heavily uses MJ’s “Human Nature” musical track. He even spun around and grabbed his crotch like Michael.
Chris Brown needs to create his own style and let Michael Jackson rest. But I have no problem with him paying tribute to the late King of Pop during anniversary specials.
