Michael Jackson was everybody’s hero, let me count the ways

Michael Jackson, who died a year ago on June 25, is the greatest entertainer who ever lived.
You may disagree. But can you name another entertainer who just about everybody admired or imitated at some point in their lives?
Say what you want about his unusual personal life. But at some point in your life — probably before the first false child molestation allegation, Michael Jackson was your hero.
You sang,”ABC. Easy as 1-2-3.” You likely attempted the moonwalk. You probably begged your parents to buy you a zipper jacket like Michael’s. I’ll bet you bought a copy of Thriller to help make it the world’s best-selling album of all time. You knew all the words to “We Are the World”, the charity song MJ co-wrote with Lionel Richie, and you likely watched one of the network premiere’s of Michael’s music videos, including “Bad”, “Black or White” or “Remember The Time”.
Even my 16-year-old son, who was born after Michael’s prime, admired the King of Pop and played his greatest hits album, during our road trip to Miami months before he died.
I was driving in my car listening to sports talk radio last June when I heard that Michael Jackson had died. When I got home, I began writing a story per day about his accomplishments and the lessons everybody can learn from his life. I also had the opportunity to take my mother and stepfather to L.A. for Michael’s memorial and to visit MJ landmarks.
There’s no telling when there will be another entertainer as great as Michael Jackson, so take some time out of your day to watch one of his videos that are being aired all week to remind you of when the King of Pop was your hero.By Teneshia LaFaye
