Frenemy and green collar are among 100 new words that were added to the Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary on Thursday.
A frenemy is someone who pretends to be your friend when he or she secretly is your enemy. Hollywood socialites Paris Hilton and Nicole Ritchie and reality TV stars Heidi Montag and Lauren Conrad were considered frenemies long before Webster’s recognized the term.
Green collar describes a job that works on improving the environment. It joins white collar and blue collar, which describes jobs in office buildings and factories, respectively.

A staycation is a vacation in which a person stays at home or nearby rather than travel out of town on a vacation.

Green-collar, frenemy and staycation are among 100 new words introduced Thursday for the 11th edition of the Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary.

Pretty soon these words will be so common that it would be hard to believe they weren’t always a part of our vocabulary.
