Obama picks up the tab
CNN reported that President Obama recently ate in a restaurant and the owner didn’t know whether he should even charge the Commander-In-Chief. But the President whipped out his Visa and paid for his meal.
It was the right thing to do. Why shouldn’t he pay for his meal? As our president, Barack Obama draws a $400,000 annual salary and he and his wife Michelle filed taxes for a combined $2.7 million income in 2008.
So of course, he can pick up his own tab.
I don’t understand why the restaurant owner hesitated to charge the President. I’m sure his business has slowed down like most other restaurants in this current recession, and I doubt the restaurant owner is worth millions of dollars like Mr. Obama.
Now, I’m not coming down on the President. After all, he paid his bill.
I just don’t understand why politicians, celebrities and athletes get a free pass. They make more money than any of us, so why shouldn’t they pay? They already get waited on hand-and-foot in their occupations. President Obama has his own chefs in the White House, and celebrities and athletes get catered and buffet meals while on the job. So when they’re off work, they should pay like the rest of us.
I’m sure you can agree that it is not fair for someone on a fixed five-figure income to have to pay for his or her meal and for their kids meals while a wealthy politician, celebrity or athlete gets to eat for free. What do the rich need to save their money for —another expensive car, mega house or yacht?
President Obama deserves a pat on the back for setting a good example for his peers.
